Not quite what I was looking for. September 1, 2010

The Grass Gator was supposed to be the solution to my "always having to refill my line" problem. As it turns out, the blades dulled pretty quickly. It could be that the Grass Gator is made just for hittin' weeds in an open space. I was edging along my house and gardens. Anyhow, I'm not ready to say it's a bad product, but it certainly didn't do what I was hoping it would. I recommend you only buy it if you won't have it near anything that could dull the blades.

This thing is a huge disappointment. While the attachment process went ok, everything was downhill from there.
My trimmer would stall whenever I got this thing into some thick grass. Occurred multiple times in the first 10 min. of use.
Then the first plastic tooth broke off. C'mon ... my string lasts longer along a chainlink fence!!!! This thing went into the trash and I'll live with the string hassles.
Buyer beware.

The gator is awesome, and well worth the price. I detest string trimmers and the bumping on the ground and the frustration in reloading. This fixes all of that, and works like a charm.

It's easy to install, easy to use, and is more effective than string.

The only thing I haven't had to do yet is replace one of the blades. That might change my review if that's a pain, but I doubt it will be given the success of the product in general.

Last point. Compared to string trimmers, the gator is probably more dangerous. A haven't tested this as it would require trying to hurt myself with the thing. It just looks kind of mean and nasty in motion, almost like a saw blade for grass. Eye protection is a requirement, and follow the safety instructions to the tee.

I recently picked up one of these at a yard sale, thinking, "Hey, it might actually work, and then I won't have to fuss with replacing line." I have a heavy duty Craftsman 3.5hp push type trimmer, and the Grass Gator assembled easily right to the hub. It even has a rounded bottom that keeps the blades about .50 minimum from the ground. And the blades are literally a snap to change. I will definitely not go back to string. And be very cautous about the chain type replacements. If one of those chains break, it could go right through your ankle, or clip Fido's nose off. This works very well on grass and light weed trimming. If you're going after heavier weeds and brush, you should get the Grass Gator II, it is heavier duty.
