On March 1, 1998, Tanaka became the first two-stroke manufacturer to certify to the stringent C.A.R.B. Tier II emissions regulations. While most other manufacturers tried to fight the standard and say that it could not be done with two-stroke, Tanaka did it. Today, all Tanaka products comply with EPA phase 2 regulations and all Tanaka product groups are C.A.R.B Tier II compliant.

This is said to be a top of the line product. It is light, and develops reasonably good power but the first time I used it, the devices that clamps the throttle in place did not work. Worse, the trimmer may on occasion jam as a result. With this fixed I may yet revise my assessment but, for a "top of the line" product it seems to flimsy. In any event, I will not buy gas-powered tools from Amazon again on account of the non-return policy of gas-powered equipment. This is really bad. I had to return the product, at my expense, to Tanaka to be fixed. I will review this after it is returned - at Tanaka's expense, I hope.

Works good so far. I've trimmed about 15 hr so far and the trimmers work good. Tanaka makes quality in all their tools that I've bought.
