1 out of 5 stars If I only knew   July 21, 2010
Jack of all Trades, Master of None
As my title says, "If I only knew." Don't get me wrong, I really like the unit (RYOBI ZRRY344204 Stroke) itself, it's just a small repeating problem that drives me crazy. At the back of the motor head where the neon green housing is, there are a number of slots, in this area there is a small black tube with a black cap that is "supposed" to connect in the upper back behind the case slots. Well my tube popped off about 6 times, I've only used it twice. In other words it keeps popping off. The BIG problem is that when it "pops" off the engine oil spills out.(not a good thing)
If I'd have known about this problem I would have gotten an old reliable 2 cycle engine. So much for trying an advanced model. Gonna take it to a service center and ask if I should return it for a 2 cycle, or is it good enough to fix and keep. I'v only had it for less that 2 weeks.

4 out of 5 stars This is a good weed trimmer.   July 19, 2010

After some problems with shipping, I was pleased to receive my new trimmer. This Ryobi starts easily and after a minor adjustment to the idle screw, it idles well without turning the shaft which is an important safety consideration. The curved shaft seemed to make it a little shorter than trimmers I had used in the past so I attached an additional safety handle and this greatly improved the performance without the additional bending associated with a curved shaft trimmer. I'm very pleased with the ability to attach other tools and have purchased a pruner to go with it.

1 out of 5 stars Doesn't Cut It   July 18, 2010
M. D. Cummings (Kanosh,, Utah United States)
I was excited to find a four stroke weed trimmer and thought I'd give it a 'go'. I have been a groundskeeper at a major university and I have a huge yard that requires a lot of trimming. I had a Homelite 2 cycle that lasted me for five years or better so I figured where this Ryobi was a four stroke the demands on the engine would be less and it would last me for a long time. Well today the engine blew an oil ring and showered me with oil not to mention the clouds of blue smoke it spewed into the neighborhood. This is the second season for this machine and I have never been more disappointed in all the weed trimmers I have used than I was with this one. Also, when I bought the machine it wouldn't run up to full capacity I got checking and found there was no air filter , , , Gosh, where is quality control here. This machine just can't cut it nor can it cut weeds.

1 out of 5 stars Cheap because it's not as good   July 1, 2010
D. Slider (MI, USA)
This runs but is very hard to start. Feels like a missing tooth on the starter. With some careful alignment, you can get the starter lined up just right and get a good strong pull to get it going. The no return policy makes this a risky buy. If I had to do it again, I would go to Home Depot and pay full price. At least there it can be returned when it doesn't work.

1 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This Trimmer   June 13, 2010
Archie M (Northeast PA)
I purchased two of these trimmers. They both leaked fluid and lacked power. When I contacted Amazon, they sent me replacments. The second set was the same way (leaky and powerless). I have returned them all and purchased a 2 stroke Husqvarna. The Husqvarna was more epensive than the reconditioned Ryobi, but it works excellent!
Don't waste your time and money on this trimmer.
